  • The Business Development Officer, who will facilitate business training and business development services for English and Vietnamese speakers in the Viet Village Business Corridor.
  • The Business Development Director, who will plan and execute business development campaigns to ensure the long-term vitality of businesses in the Viet Village Business Corridor.
  • The Social Services Provider, who will assist Vietnamese Americans in New Orleans East who speak little or no English to obtain social services, including receiving government assistance, contacting utility and housing providers, and translating official documents.

POSITION DETAILS

Business Development Officer
Hours required: 40 hours/week, Monday-Friday, including some evening and weekends
Salary: $35,000 - $40,000 per year, depending on experience
  Includes medical benefits, professional development training, career-building opportunities, subsidized housing
Reports to: Business Development Director

Duties and Responsibilities
The Business Development Officer for MQVN CDC facilitates business training and business development services for English and Vietnamese speakers in the Viet Village Business Corridor.

Specific duties are as follows:

  • Plan and organize business management training classes to increase participants' knowledge of business operations
  • Marketing and financial management and impart problem-solving skills to participants as they learn to define their business ideas
  • Develop business plans to assess business feasibility, improve business management skills, and maximize profit
  • Assist VV clients to prepare loan applications. Review clients' business plans and assist client to improve them as necessary
  • Consult one-on-one with VV clients to apply the skills learned in the workshops. Help guide and monitor business growth after training and after borrowing
  • Prepare monthly reports on client consultations, including time spent and substance of consultations. Maintain and monitor accurate records on clients, program activities and business progress and outcomes
  • Work cooperatively with other MQVN CDC Business Development team members to provide services that are informed, appropriate, comprehensive and effective in assisting VV clients recover, rebuild, and grow after the storm
  • Provide input and assistance for training curriculum development and revisions
  • Participate in ongoing program development and evaluation to existing and new MQVN CDC Viet Village Business Development programs
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Skills and Experience
  • BA degree in business or related field
  • Bi-lingual ability (Vietnamese-English)
  • Business management experience; three years experience as a business owner or manager (including work in a family-owned business) OR two years experience business consulting or training
  • Strong training/facilitation skills; knowledge of adult participatory learning
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Proficiency with computers including word processing, spreadsheets and database programs

Business Development Director

Reports to: Executive Director

Duties and Responsibilities:
MQVN Community Development Corporation (MQVN CDC) seeks a Business Development Director (BDD) to manage the revitalization of an up and coming Vietnamese American business center in New Orleans. The BDD is responsible for planning and executing community-based long-term redevelopment goals.

Specific Duties:

  • Gain knowledge of and stay informed about rebuilding resources and regulations from government and non-profit agencies
  • Establish strong working relationships with City of New Orleans departments and staff
  • Forge strong relationships internally and externally: with parish and Archdiocesan leaders; mainstream community leaders; government officials and representatives at the local, state and federal levels; potential funders and donors; and potential project partners
  • Participate in relevant external advocacy, regional or deanery-wide planning efforts, or other initiatives as appropriate

  • Manage and further develop MQVN CDC Business Development team
  • Oversee and help further develop existing projects, including: business counseling program; development of business association, facade improvement program
  • Identify business community needs and develop programs to properly expand the MQVN CDC operations to address the various needs
  • Work with other staff at MQVN CDC to coordinate efforts and ensure open lines of communication
  • Aid in the ongoing growth and sustainability of MQVN CDC as an organization

Required Qualifications
  • Ability to communicate the organization's mission and vision
  • Excellent leadership, management and interpersonal skills strategic planning and program development, sound decision making, problem solving, implementation, negotiation and personal/professional ethics
  • Excellent communication skills including experience and comfort with oral, written, listening, and public speaking opportunities
  • Computer skills including word processing, database and presentation software
  • Strong ability to work with others, develop resources and build alliances
  • Knowledge and experience working in and involving diverse communities
  • Experience/knowledge with community development, community organizing, and public policy

Health Clinic Project Manager
Hours required:40 hours/week, Monday-Friday, including some evening and weekends
Salary: $30,000 per year, plus benefits
Reports to: Executive Director

Duties and Responsibilities:
Mary Queen of Viet Nam Community Development Corporation (MQVN CDC) is seeking a Health Clinic Project Manager to establish a culturally and linguistically appropriate health clinic for the New Orleans East population.

Specific Duties:

  • Manage all aspects of ongoing community-based research and projects and building relationships with a network of community health centers/providers

  • Work with current partners such as Department of Health and Hospitals, Tulane Xavier National Center of Excellence in Women’s Health, Louisiana Public Health Institute, Excelth, and more
  • Fundraise and write grants for health clinic initiative
  • Assess community medical needs by conducting focus groups, interviews, community forums, surveys, one-on-ones, etc.
  • Conduct a feasibility analysis of health clinic, includes gaining site control for clinic
  • Coordinate outreach activities to inform and update community members on healthcare services
  • Collaborate with partners to conduct health education workshops
  • Responsible for the day-to-day management, coordination, planning, and implementation of various project activities; budget oversight and management; participate in the dissemination of reports, internal communications and briefs

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in public health or a related field preferred
  • Minimum of two years experience working in public/community health
  • Demonstrated ability to bring about consensus working with diverse con
  • Ability to work independently and good sense about when to seek help
  • Fluency in Vietnamese preferred
  • Demonstrated community-based experience and skills, including research, marketing, outreach, and/or education
  • Demonstrated project/program management experience including budgetary, grant writing, and general administrative skills required
