Affordable Housing
After Hurricane Katrina, seniors in the community expressed great interest in having a retirement community; therefore, MQVN CDC has made it a priority to develop affordable housing for seniors. MQVN CDC and Providence Community Housing, in partnership with the Archdiocese of New Orleans, are committed to building Mary Queen of Viet Nam Retirement Community in Village de l'Est, by using FEMA funds to develop the project.
The Mary Queen of Viet Nam Retirement Community will house 75 independent living units and provide support services for seniors, age 62 and over. The site is located across the street from Mary Queen of Vietnam Catholic Church on Dwyer Boulevard. The building is expected to be 71,519 sq. ft and will be located on the far back right parallel to the bayou. The physical building will have language appropriate signage and services will include culturally competent staff, a gap currently not being addressed in both the private market and public sector. All 75 units will target incomes at or below 50% AMI.
